About us

Canberra Street Cat Alliance (CSCA) was founded in 2014 with the mission is to humanely reduce the population of street cats in Canberra and the surrounding region. Street cats are unowned cats born or abandoned in suburban or industrial areas of Canberra. They rely on humans for food, either directly or indirectly. Without proactive management, street cat colonies can grow to unsustainable levels. This increases the unnecessary death of street cats and can cause concerns for residents and businesses.

What we do

CSCA aims to provide a solution to ensure the safety and welfare of street cats, while simultaneously addressing street cat population growth. This includes providing a Streets to Sheets Adoption Program for cats suitable for rehoming and a Trap, Neuter, Return program.

The Streets to Sheets Adoption Program rehomes street cats from Canberra and the surrounding regions. All cats are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and socialised prior to rehoming. All cats are rehomed to indoor only homes, or homes with access to a fully enclosed outdoor area.

The TNR Program provides a humane solution to managing the population of street cats in Canberra and the surrounding region. Street cats are monitored, trapped, desexed, microchipped and vaccinated before being returned to their home.

CSCA will only return a street cat if we are satisfied the cat will have access to food, water and ongoing care by colony carers. CSCA commits to providing necessary follow up veterinary care for all cats in its TNR program.

What we don’t do

  • CSCA does not remove nuisance cats in residential areas. If you have a nuisance cat there are many commercially available cat deterrents that can be used.

  • We do not accept pet cats that need rehoming. As we specialise in unowned cats living on the streets unfortunately we do not also have capacity to take in pet cats that need rehoming.

If you have a cat that needs rehoming please contact RSPCA ACT, or one of the many other wonderful cat rescues in Canberra such as Flossie’s Kitten Rescue, Canberra Pet Rescue or 4Lyfe Rescue.
